Research spaces enable each user to create a research space in which to add Folders and Resources, and give permissions to that research space to other SIdora users.  A user with Create and/or Edit permissions in a space, can Create Folders and Resources in the space, Edit Metadata for Folders and/or Resources in the space, and can Copy, Move or Link Folders and Resources into the Space. If a user has Delete permissions, they may also delete Folders and Resources in a space.   A user with View only permissions in a space, will not be able to Copy, Move or Link Folders or Resources into the space, but could Copy or Link Folders and/or Resources from the space to a space where they do have Create/Edit permissions.

Step-by-step guide

Copying Folders between spaces

Copy Function

Note: the copy function duplicates a Resource or Folder in another part of the hierarchy, so that any changes to the copied folder do not change the original.

  1. Select the Folder you want to copy, right-click and select Copy Folder
  2. Only research spaces in which the user has Create/Edit permissions will display for the Folder to be copied
  3. Select Confirm
  4. Select the space to which the Folder was copied (may need to press F5 to refresh).  The newly copied folder displays with its resources in the new space.

Linking Folders between spaces

Link Function

Note: The Link function, links a folder or resource to another folder, so that any change made to the original folder will be propagated in all places that the linked Folder appears in the hierarchy.

  1. Select the Folder you want to link, right-click and select Copy Folder
  2. Only research spaces in which the user has Create/Edit permissions will display for the Folder to be linked
  3. Select Confirm
  4. Select the space to which the Folder was linked (may need to press F5 to refresh).  The newly liked folder displays with its resources in the new space.
